Corsets

A corset has boning (vertical support elements) and a lace-up closure that cinches the waist. A bustier is softer, often has no boning, and fastens with hooks or a zip. A bustier supports the upper body without cinching the waist.

Choose a corset for dramatic waist shaping. Choose a bustier for something more comfortable that you can wear all evening.

Measure your natural waist (the narrowest point, usually just above the navel) with a tape measure. Corsets are typically chosen 5 to 10 cm smaller than your waist measurement — this is called waist reduction.

• Beginners: choose 5 cm smaller than your waist
• Experienced wearers: 7–10 cm smaller is comfortably achievable

The corset does not need to close fully at first — you can tighten it gradually as the material breaks in.

A corset should feel firm but never painful:

• Seasoning: wear a new corset for just 1–2 hours at first, slightly tighter each time, so the material moulds to your body
• Liner: wear a thin camisole or tube top underneath to prevent chafing and keep the corset clean
• Lace evenly: tighten from the middle outward, working toward top and bottom
• Breathing room: you should always be able to breathe normally. If not, it is too tight

Yes. An underbust corset (below the bust) fits well under clothing, giving structure and a sleek silhouette under dresses, blouses, or office wear. Choose a model with flat boning and smooth fabric.

An overbust corset also covers the bust and can be worn as a standalone top — pair it with a blazer or high-waisted trousers for a striking look.
