Ball Gags

There are three main types of gags, each with a different feel and intensity level:

• Ball gag — a round ball (usually silicone) held in the mouth. The most common type, available in various diameters
• Bit gag — a cylindrical bar clamped between the teeth, similar to a horse bit. Allows slightly more breathing room than a ball gag
• Ring gag — a metal or silicone ring that holds the mouth open. More advanced and intended for experienced users

All types are secured with an adjustable strap around the head. Before use, always agree on a non-verbal safe signal with your partner — a gag makes it impossible to speak a safe word.

Since you cannot talk with a gag in, a non-verbal safe signal is essential. Always agree on one before starting:

• Dropping an object — hold a ball or small bell. If you drop it, everything stops immediately
• Hand signal — agree on a clear gesture, such as tapping three times or spreading your fingers wide
• Three grunts — three short, repeated sounds as a universal stop signal

The dominant partner must continuously watch for these signals throughout the session. When in doubt: stop and check in. Consent and communication form the foundation of safe BDSM.

Ball gags come in three common sizes:

Always start small if you have no experience with gags. A ball that is too large can cause jaw cramps or discomfort. The strap should be tight enough to hold the gag in place, but you should always be able to slide two fingers underneath for safety.

Choose a model made of medical-grade silicone — it is body-safe, tasteless, odourless, and easy to clean.

Good oral hygiene is especially important with gags since the toy comes into direct contact with your mouth:

• Before and after each use: wash the gag thoroughly with warm water and mild antibacterial soap or toy cleaner
• Silicone gags can also be briefly boiled (2-3 minutes) for thorough disinfection
• Leather straps should be wiped with a damp cloth — do not submerge. Treat the leather occasionally with a leather conditioner
• Allow to dry completely before storing to prevent mould growth
• Never use the gag when you have a cold, sore throat, or mouth sores

Store your gag in a clean, dry pouch — not in a sealed plastic bag.
